David E. Jones, Attorney at Law - Dallas Personal Injury and Civil Trial Lawyer
Overview of the Firm’s Practice
The firm is located in Dallas, Texas. David E. Jones practices law as an independent solo-practitioner. He has extensive experience in the litigation and trial of all kinds of personal injury cases and is Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
Although the firm specializes in personal injury cases, for many years the firm has also handled other types of civil cases, including consumer deceptive trade practice litigation, tenants’ rights cases and insurance bad faith litigation.
Personal Injury Trial Lawyer - For the Plaintiff. Attorney Jones’ past professional experience handling personal injury cases is broad in scope and complexity: from simple automobile accident cases to complex product liability litigation; from cases involving relatively minor physical injuries to many cases involving catastrophic injury and wrongful death. They include: automobile/truck defect and accident cases, construction accident cases, medical malpractice cases, premises defect lawsuits, third-party criminal liability cases, governmental liability/tort claims, 18 wheeler truck collision cases – and many others. Past cases have resulted in significant verdicts or settlements for the firm’s clients.
Consumer (DTPA) Law – Tenants’ Rights Litigation – Bad Faith Insurance Practices. Dave Jones has worked as an advocate on consumer law issues, since before he was even an attorney. (See Attorney Biography page) From time to time throughout his years of law practice he has taken cases representing individuals victimized by misleading or deceptive acts and practices or defective products, including direct actions involving bad faith practices by insurance companies. As a volunteer attorney, Dave Jones worked for many years assisting low-income tenants in landlord/tenant disputes on behalf of the non-profit Housing Crisis Center in Dallas. In more recent years, he has litigated cases referred to him by the Texas Tenants Union, where he has represented large groups of low-income tenants wrongfully deprived of subsidized housing benefits. The photo below is of Attorney Dave Jones with one of the Plaintiffs in those cases.
Current “Good Government” Activities
Taking Action against the Undue Influence of “Money in Politics”
Attorney Dave Jones is still engaged in an active law practice, but after practicing primarily as a personal injury lawyer for over 30 years, he has recently been dedicating part of his time to working as a volunteer with several “good government” organizations acting to protect the public interest in a number of areas. Links to these organizations are on the left-hand side of the page. Follow the links to these organizations and learn more about their important activities.
Because of certain recent decisions by the US Supreme Court, including Citizens United v. FEC, attorney Dave Jones has become particularly concerned about the impact of large financial donors on our elections and political system – and the potentially corrupting influence of unlimited “money in politics.” Consequently he has become active as an advocate in various anti-corruption and campaign finance reform efforts. The photo below was taken of Dave Jones at the podium addressing a press conference on behalf of a coalition of anti-corruption groups advocating for stronger ethics legislation during the last session of the Texas legislature.
A Law Firm Representing the Under-Represented
From the beginning, the law firm has been dedicated to the ideal of using the civil justice system to help ordinary people -- who might not otherwise be able to afford counsel -- fight powerful interests.
We have faith in the common sense of ordinary people embodied in the American right to trial by jury. We seek to preserve the fundamental right established by the 7th Amendment to the United States Constitution, protecting the right to jury trial in a civil case. We believe the preservation of the right to trial by jury is fundamental to the preservation our democracy.
Accidents can happen without fault, but in other cases injuries are either preventable or caused by the negligence or wrongful conduct of another person or corporation. Civil lawsuits serve an important function in our society by holding wrongdoers accountable and providing fair compensation to the wrongfully injured. We believe that lawsuits also play a significant deterrent role in preventing future suffering at the hands of reckless individuals or corporations.
For personal injury, wrongful death, and insurance claim cases, we almost always work on a contingent fee basis—our attorney’s fee is paid as a percentage out of the total amount recovered, but only if we succeed in obtaining a financial recovery. We advance the costs of pursuing the case, and are reimbursed for out-of pocket expenses, such as court filing and expert witness fees, only if the case is successful. The client pays no money up front. Consumer litigation is handled either on a negotiable case-by-case fee basis or pro bono.
